Although these may all be true, I’d like to think of an alternative scenario. These deeds cannot be denied, and do support an admiration for Henry IV and for his obvious empathy for others. He even pardons the former Duke of Aumerle–now the Earl of Ruthland–of an attempted murder plot because of his mother’s powerful words and the Earl’s confession. Most of course would say Henry IV would be a better king for England, and why not? He treats subjects fairly, saves personal orders for death only for those who he deemed responsible for the degradation of England, repents greatly after believing that he may have caused Richard II’s death.
